Welcome to the Wyoming CRAFT Website.

“Good company in a journey makes the way seem shorter.” ~Izaak Walton

CRAFT, The Collaborative Regional Alliance for Farmer Training, is a farmer-led coalition organized by sustainable agriculture farmers within a self-selected geographic region. Participating mentor farmers offer up their time, talents and experience to help prepare the next generation of farmers.

The secret to CRAFT’s success is simple – farmers learn most effectively from other farmers. CRAFT provides farmer-to-farmer learning and access to the social network and culture of local farmers. CRAFT farmer alliances are diverse and may focus on these things: apprenticeships/internships, employment, mentoring, field days, technical assistance, workshops, conferences, social gatherings, strategic business planning courses, farm incubators, and more.

CRAFT alliances are as diverse as the farmers who shape them and emerge from the character of the region. Farmers in CRAFT follow natural, organic, Biodynamic, and/or other sustainable farming principles. They may grow produce, livestock, and/or cereals or grains. Some run community supported agriculture farms for direct distribution to their CSA members. Some may sell via local direct markets including farm stands, farmer’s markets, restaurants and other local markets.

CRAFT welcomes trainees with all levels of experience, whether you’ve never farmed before, you have significant experience and need advanced training, or you’re an established farmer seeking to transition to sustainable agriculture.

The first CRAFT program was founded by CRAFT in the Hudson Valley in upstate New York in 1994.  The second CRAFT program, Upper Midwest CRAFT, was founded in 1997 by ten farmers from northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin. CRAFT has grown since then, with many more local farmer-led CRAFT alliances sprouting up across the US and Canada. Please see the CRAFT Farmer website for more information.

This farmer-led alliance is continuing to grow! Wyoming CRAFT was formed in 2018 under the sponsorship of The Earth Mother Renewal Project, a non-profit, agricultural education organization located in Lander, WY.
